An adopted rescue dog and their person together in a warm, welcoming home environment

The Program

Essential Foundations for Rescue Dogs

Your Dog Doesn’t Need to Know Everything Yet. We’ll Help You Teach What They Need to Know.

Your rescue dog may have skills they brought with them, habits that worked somewhere else, or important life skills they were never taught. Essential Foundations helps you build the everyday skills your dog needs to become a successful member of your household.

The Problem

You Brought Home a Dog.
Now You’re Realizing They Didn’t Come With Household Instructions.

Jump on people
Struggle to settle
Pull on walks
Steal or chew things
Struggle with impulse control
Have accidents
Struggle with greetings
Not respond when called
Become overexcited
Have difficulty understanding household routines
Lack basic skills you assumed they already knew

And sometimes the issue isn’t that your dog learned the “wrong” thing.

They may simply never have been taught what you want them to do.

The Big Idea

Start With the Skills That Make Everything Else Easier.

Essential Foundations isn’t about collecting obedience commands. It is about teaching the practical skills that help a rescue dog successfully navigate everyday life.

Connection

Learning how to communicate with each other.

Calm

Learning how to settle, pause, and regulate excitement.

Life Skills

Learning what works in your household.

Impulse Control

Learning to wait, disengage, and make better choices.

Confidence

Building skills without overwhelming the dog.

Everyday Success

Taking those skills into real-life situations.

Individualized Training

Your Dog Isn’t a Number.
And Training Isn’t a Checklist.

Every rescue dog arrives with a different starting point. Linda doesn’t simply put every dog through the same obedience curriculum. She gets to know your dog and identifies the skills that will make the biggest difference in your everyday life together.

Leash Skills

Building practical walking skills for your real neighborhood.

Teaching your dog that coming when called is worth it.

Helping you recognize what your dog is communicating while building useful skills.

Fear Free® / No-Force Approach

Learning Happens Best When Dogs Can Think.

Linda is a Fear Free® Shelter Graduate and uses no-force methods with pet dogs. Even when working with energetic or high-drive dogs, Linda works to keep stress levels as low as practical to promote learning.

The goal isn’t to overwhelm a dog into compliance. The goal is to help the dog think, learn, communicate, and succeed.

Step 1

Lower unnecessary stress

Step 2

Better ability to process

Step 3

Better learning

Step 4

More useful skills

Training is thoughtfully structured to support learning — never relying on intimidation, pain, or fear.

What Success Looks Like

We’re Not Trying to Create a Perfect Dog.

We’re helping you build a dog who can participate more successfully in your everyday life.

Your dog settling while you work.
A calmer greeting at the door.
A walk that feels manageable.
Your dog responding when you call.
Being able to trade an object instead of chasing your dog around the house.
Recognizing when your dog needs a break.
Knowing what to teach next.

And most importantly:
Understanding your dog better.

Ready to Help Your Rescue Dog Learn the Skills They Need?

You don’t have to know everything about your dog’s past. You don’t have to teach everything at once. And you don’t have to figure it out alone.

Start with the skills that make everyday life easier.
